I’ve been avoiding getting into discussions over Red Hood and the Outlaws, and to be honest, I tend to avoid discussing specific issues or runs of comics in general as to be quite honest, it often leads to far more bitching and stress than it’s really worth. I love comics and love certain characters fiercely. I have my opinion and that is not always going to mesh with other peoples.
Does that make me wrong? No. Does it make them wrong? Not in the slightest. I just can’t be bothered with a lot of the bitching and crap that goes on in comic fandoms in general. If I like a character or a particular run of a book, I like them. I should not have to justify why I like them, just like other people should not have to justify themselves for not liking them. Horses for courses and all that.
That said, I can’t help but weigh in on one particular issue- the meeting between Tim Drake and Jason Todd in Red Hood and the Outlaws #8. I’ve seen a heck of a lot of hate for these pages over the last day or so and a lot of people saying that it is entirely out of character for the pair of them. Personally, I don’t think it is. If anything, I find it to be exactly in line with their characters.
Just a warning, this is a long, somewhat incoherent ramble at times. It started out on the topic of RHatO, but sort of descended into me rambling on Jason and Tim and their relationship in general. Feel free to ignore all of this.
And I hasten to add that this is ENTIRELY MY OPINION and I am more than willing to admit that I may well read into things too much, but *shrug*
TL;DR - I really liked this exchange and don’t think that it is out of character. While I’ve had issue with Lobdell, his writing and the series in general at several points in it’s run thus far, this isn’t one of them. I thought it was all really well done.
