Damian and male privilege
I don’t understand why so many comic fans seem to find misogyny hilarious as long as it’s coming from Damian.
Because when he makes his omg so witty and awesome cracks about Kara’s weight or Steph’s breasts, and the you can almost hear the writer giggling and going OH SNAP - that is an expression of male privilege.
See, it might not be so irritating if Steph reacted the way most women would if body-snarked by a ten-year-old (which is laugh in his pissy little prepubescent face) but she doesn’t. She just grumbles slightly or walks away, and we’re left with the general impression of “ha HA, Damian sure told her, amirite?”
Steph is drawn as a conventionally gorgeous women. But apparently she can still be put in her place by a ten-year boy old implying that she’s unattractive. Because he’s male, and that means he’s entitled to judge women’s bodies. Look, Steph can’t even make a retort! She just lets him say that shit and looks uncomfortable and pissed off! Oh my aching sides.
And that’s not even mentioning his slut-shaming of Selina, Vicki, god knows who else. I don’t get it. Why is this funny? His insults aren’t even witty. Just obvious, lazy and mean.
